National Walking Month

May is National Walking Month and the ideal time to get out and about on your favourite walks. Follow our foot care tips to ensure your feet are properly supported and to prevent common foot issues such as blisters, callus, corns, arch pain, and heel pain.

1. Stretch your feet prior to activity to prevent injury

Like all parts of the body, our feet benefit from regular stretching and exercise to help prevent foot pain and injury.

Our best-selling PediRoller offers the perfect device to help stretch your feet before and after exercise. The ridged shape of the Pediroller helps reduce tension and stimulates circulation to the feet. The Pediroller helps stretch the plantar fascia, a band of connective tissue running along the bottom of the foot, reducing pain and increasing flexibility.

The Pantar Pad is a fasica tissue strength training device. The Plantar Pad is a product which allows you to do strengthening exercises for the foot and calf. Its design places the plantar fascia under some tension while the muscles in the foot and calf work. With the correct use, the exercises will strengthen your fascia tissue and reduce the pain in your foot. Perfect for preventing injury throughout walking month.

2. Moisturise your feet daily

Use a moisturising foot cream daily to improve the resilience of your skin and to help prevent dry or cracked skin.

Our best-selling range from Ureka Footcare are perfect for daily use. We recommend Ureka 25% Urea for severe cases of dry or cracked skin on the feet. Daily application will help improve the appearance of the skin. We recommend Ureka 10% Urea for general cases of dry skin on the feet. Application every day will leave your skin feel soft and supple.

2. Wear comfortable and supportive shoes

Choosing footwear that is well fitting and designed for walking will help to ensure your feet have adequate support and shock absorption.

4. Invest in extra support if needed

If you require extra support, orthotic insoles or foot sleeves can help to provide additional care to dedicated areas.

Powerstep Pinnacle Insoles provide maximum cushioning and full support, making them ideal for walkers, hikers, runners, cyclists and anyone with an active lifestyle.  The comfy padding and anti-bacterial top fabric reduce slippage and heat, keeping feet drier, while safeguarding the heel during high impact landings.  Powerstep Pinnacle Insoles help to reduce inward rolling of the foot and relieve pain and strain in the heel, arch, ankles, knees and even lower back.

Shop from our range of comfortable, light-weight alternatives to bulky, restrictive foot supports.  Orthosleeve foot supports help to prevent and relieve pain in the feet and ankles.

5. Protect sensitive skin from friction

There is nothing worse than a blister whilst walking. Walking socks and blister prevention plasters can help to prevent feet from friction and pressure.

Our Walking Socks from Thought are perfect for keeping your feet comfortable, fresh and happy whilst walking. Made from an incredibly soft organic cotton blend, these socks are sustainable keeping your feet and the planet happy.
